An air ambulance has rushed to assist with a police incident in the Eastwood area.
Progress Road was initially closed between the A127 and A1015 Rayleigh Road as a result of the incident, but has since re-opened.
Motorists are still however advised to avoid the area, which is experiencing tailbacks of traffic on all approaches.
Reports on social media suggest that someone may have been airlifted to hospital. The ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
UPDATE: The incident has now been cleared.
A spokesperson from the ambulance service said: "We were called to Progress Road shortly before 5.40pm on October 8 to reports of a suspected cardiac arrest.
"We sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance, two ambulance officers and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and treated one male patient at the scene before transporting him by road to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further assessment and care."
