An Essex based charity teamed up with a fitness centre in Basildon to host a wide number of male health checks in the community.

In partnership with sponsors McDonald’s, Essex charity CHAPS organised a successful screening event at Club Kingswood Health & Fitness in Basildon.

Officially opened by the Mayor of Basildon Councillor David Burton Samson, up to 120 men underwent a series of free health checks including abdominal ultrasound scans, skin checks, heart checks, physiotherapy appointments and blood tests to screen for prostate cancer.

The scans proved timely and worthwhile as a number of health concerns were picked up and ensured that the patients will be referred to their GPs immediately for further treatment.

CHAPS health charity was founded by Professor Chris Booth and has screened over 2,000 men in Essex and has often discovered unexpected and unknown problems, many of them life threatening, in time to take the necessary procedures.

Basildon McDonald’s franchise owner Gen Isikgun said: “It was amazing to support such an important cause and witness the important work the CHAPS charity is doing for men in Essex.

We’re relieved to know that due to the screening event, the CHAPS charity has discovered a range of treatable problems, possibly saving over 15 people’s lives.

We would like to thank all the volunteers that took the time to carry out the event as well as all the other sponsors who generously donated.”
