FLYTIPPERS, people urinating in public and litterers were fined in the first four weeks of an operation targeting people littering car parks with nitrous oxide canisters.
The initiative sees officers visiting car parks to tackle anti-social behaviour and activities linked to discarding nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.
Anyone caught dumping canisters is issued a £150 on-the-spot fine and the registered keeper of the vehicle being used is issued a community protection notice which informs them that their vehicle has been involved in environmental anti-social behaviour.
While on active patrols, officers have also fined people for other offences witnessed, including fly-tipping.
Thurrcok council leader Rob Gledhill, said: “This operation is just four weeks in and already it has proven to be a huge success cracking down on not only on those littering our streets with nitrous oxide canisters but on all kinds of anti-social behaviour including fly-tipping, fly-posting and drug use.
“We know these are all issues which residents have told us are unacceptable and we will continue to take decisive action to bring these activities to an end.”
The team have now been patrolling over four separate weekends and have taken the following action:

l Two Fixed Penalty Notice for urinating
l One Fixed Penalty Notice for fly-posting
l One businesses fined for not handling their waste properly

l One Community Protection Warning Notices for anti-social behaviour in Vicarage Square

The initiative will continue as the council and police take action against the recreational use of dangerous nitrous oxide canisters.
