An art installation is the latest project run by SPACE at 37 Queen Street to support local creatives.

Taking over a meeting room at the studio complex, it's been put together by six artists, based in Essex and Suffolk.

Jack Briggs-Miller, general manager at 37 Queen Street, says: "It's the first time we've had an installation of this kind but it follows on from our work supporting artists providing them with support to continue their practices after they've graduated."

In July, six graduate artists were selected and offered the opportunity to work together on one project, developed through peer-to-peer feedback and collaboration.

In response to the theme ‘Moments of Change’, this collaborative art installation is the culmination of the artists’ goal to learn, develop and understand each other’s practices. Each artist brings with them different specialisms which, when combined, creates a multi-sensory art installation.

Clare Chennells, one of the artists taking part, adds: "It's been an incredible opportunity for all of us, not just to showcase our work to a wider audience but also to work with other artists.

"Each of our pieces have been through at least two other artists, from different disciplines, and to see your art go through lots of different processes has been very liberating and worthwhile."

Established by artists in 1968, SPACE runs 20 artist studio buildings across seven London boroughs and Colchester, providing affordable creative workspace plus support programmes, such as exhibitions, artists residencies, bursaries and training opportunities, to enable artists to be sustainable.

In Colchester SPACE runs a variety of initiatives designed to support and promote artists, nurturing talent and excellence at a critical time in an artist’s development.

They have also recently launched South-East Creatives, with Colchester workshops and mentoring sessions taking place this November.

SWITCH runs at 37 Queen Street until September 25, from 10am to 4pm.
