WESTCLIFF will be gunning for their first National Two South success of the season when they host Leicester Lions tomorrow.

Westcliff, who were promoted last term, have kicked off the new campaign with back-to-back defeats.

And hooker Billy Morrant is keen to put that right this weekend.

“It’s going to be a tough game tomorrow but I feel as if we are in a good place to get our first win of the season,” said Morrant.

“We know that Westcliff is a tough place to come and get a win and we want a good result.”

Westcliff suffered a painful opening day defeat at home, losing 25-24 to Dings Crusaders before they were beaten 53-17 at Bury St Edmunds last time out.

And Morrant knows it has not been the start to the season Westcliff would have wanted.

“The results so far haven’t been how we wanted to start the season but we are constantly making progress in training and we’re getting better and better each week,” said Morrant.

“Obviously it’s tougher this year than last because of the level we’re playing at now.

“That’s shown by the result last week.

“However, it is also clear that we can compete at this level.

“That was shown by our performance in the game against Dings which we should have won to be honest.”

But Westcliff picked up just two points for their efforts, a tally Morrant is keen to build on throughout the season.

“Our hopes for this season are to stay up and compete in every game,” said Morrant.

“But we also want to keep enjoying going out on a Saturday afternoon playing rugby with our mates.”

Leicester Lions will head to the Gables having won one of their first two fixtures so far this season.
