A POPULAR town centre pub has reopened under a new name after undergoing a full refurbishment which has created five new jobs.

The Camulodunum, formerly the Duchess, in High Street, Colchester, has had a total revamp, with more than £100,00 being spent on the premises.

Its new name is a nod to Colchester's Roman past, with Camulodunum being the Latin name for the town when it became Britain's First City.

The new interior has been designed to showcase the pub's original features incorporating enhanced outdoor areas and extra seating.

A new look dancefloor has been created at the premises and the venue will show more sport than ever before with Sky Sports in ultra high-definition 4k.

Guests will also have an even wider selection of tipples to choose from than ever before with an extended drinks menu featuring craft beers, ales, gins and other spirits. Drink deals will be available.

Martin Johnson is general manager at the Camulodunum, which is owned by brewery Greene King.

He said: "I am thrilled about the enhancements we have made, and we are proud to offer a refreshed and improved experience to our customers.

"Our VIP launch night was very successful, and the feedback we’ve received from our guests so far has been fantastic.

“We managed to get the best of both worlds when designing the updates – we’ve kept the Camulodunum’s existing identity and atmosphere at the heart of the pub indoors, while the addition of a new-look dancefloor and enhanced outdoor areas will give our guests even more to experience.

"We’re also excited to introduce some local craft beers and gins to the menu, so visitors can enjoy a true taste of Colchester and the surrounding region.”

The pub also offers food every day of the week.
