A DRIVER has been reported for careless driving after a cyclist was hit by a car this morning.

Essex Police confirmed that the driver had been reported after an accident in Wickford, which left a cyclist in hospital with head injuries.

The crash took place at approximately 8am this morning, on Swan Lane.

An air ambulance landed at the scene and took the injured cyclist to Queens Hospital.

Traffic in Wickford was heavily affected and during rush hour and was brought to a standstill as Swan Lane was closed by police.

A spokesperson from Essex Police, said: "We were called shortly before 7.55am on Friday 9 August with reports of a collision involved a cyclist and a Ford Fiesta in The Broadway, Wickford.

"The cyclist, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a head injury.

"The driver was reported for careless driving."

A spokesperson from the ambulance service: "An ambulance and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to The Broadway, Wickford shortly before 8am today, following reports of a road traffic accident involving a car and cyclist.

"One man was transported by road ambulance to Queens Hospital for further assessment and care."
