DOZENS of enthusiastic runners will join an adrenaline junky who is completing 19 marathons in a year at a special charity event.

Fraser Lewis, 46, has organized the mammoth six-hour run at Abbey Fields to raise money for the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation and St Helena Hospice.

Contestants will run 5km or more by performing laps of the popular park over the six hours on September 29.

They can run for as long or as little as they like, as long as they complete 5km or more.

Fraser, of Mile End, Colchester, said: “People have asked how they can become more involved with my challenge and this allows them to come along and meet the charities to understand what they do and also what the entry will pay for.

“100 per cent of the entry fee will be going to the charities as all facilities, equipment, medals and goodie bags have neither been given free or charge or funded through various channels.

“The event only has 100 places and already we have sold 30 per cent so don’t wait to get your place.”

Fraser set himself the challenge of running 19 marathons across 2019 in a bid to raise vital funds for the charities.

So far he has completed 12 and already smashed his personal best, now routinely crossing the finishing lines in under four hours.

Fraser said he is hoping to set an example and run a marathon distance but admits he would be stopping short of running for the full six hours.

He added: "I'll be staying for the whole six hours so I can cheer everyone on and give them some moral support.

"Hopefully it will be cooler by the end of September.”

The Abbey Fields event is plastic free and so runners are asked to bring their own reusable water bottle on the day for organisers to fill up at no charge.

Tickets cost £20 with the entire amount going towards the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation and St Helena Hospice.

The foundation was set up in memory of Tom, who died aged 19, and aims to promote the care and rehabilitation of youngsters suffering from cancer and their families and promote research.
