A woman was left with a facial injury and a man was arrested after police rushed to a reports of a fight outside a pub.

The huge emergency service response was called to the incident near near the Plough and Tractor pub in Great Knightleys, Basildon last night at about 9.20pm.

Witnesses said the road was blocked off by officers and emergency services at the junction of Ballards Walk

An Essex Police spokesman said: " We were called to reports of a disturbance involving a group of people at an address in Great Knightleys, Basildon at around 9.15pm on Friday August 2.

"We attended and found a woman in her 20s who had sustained a facial injury.
A 29 year-old man from Laindon was arrested on suspicion of affray but that arrest is not in connection with the assault on the woman.

"He is currently in custody.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we need anyone who saw anything, has CCTV or dash cam footage, or any other information to call us on 101 quoting incident 1433 of 2 August or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The pub has been contacted for comment.
