LEGENDARY singing superstar Sir Tom Jones wowed thousands of adoring fans with hits from more than 50 years in the business.

The Welsh wonder performed in front of a packed audience at Colchester Castle Park - one of the biggest concerts ever staged at the venue.

Sir Tom performed a mixture of his own unmistakable hits, along with rock and roll and gospel covers.

The party was started by talented Irish singer song writer Megan O’Neill who was the first support act.

She was followed by up and coming indie pop band The Lottery Winners who got the crowd singing along to their tracks and were absolutely over the moon the be asked to support the icon from the Valleys.

Sir Tom kicked off his set with a fiery cover of John Lee Hooker’s 50s hit Burning Hell and he told the crowd he knew of Colchester because of the town’s military links.

“Hello Colchester - I knew some people from South Wales who lived down here when they were in the Army,” he said.

His two hour set included an explosive rendition of crowd favourite Sex Bomb and versions of timeless hits such as It’s Not Unusual, Delilah and What’s New Pussycat?

There was also a sultry rendition of Fever, Run On and Mama Told Me Not To Come.

Sir Tom belied his 79-years during his energetic show to belt out other classics such as You Can Leave Your Hat On and Green Green Grass.

He even had time to bemoan the Castle Park flies which caught in the back of his throat.

The popular Voice UK coach also told the crowd about how he dueted with Peter Donegan - whose late father Lonnie he had worked with decades before - when he performed completely by chance at one of the show’s blind auditions.

He recreated the moment by performing I’ll Never Fall In Love Again alongside his band.

Sir Tom told the delighted crowd how he and Elvis Presley used to stay up singing gospel when they both had residencies in Las Vegas. He also paid tribute to Louis Armstrong and Prince with amazing covers of What A Wonderful World and Kiss.

Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE, CEO of promoters LHG Live, promoters said:"We’re delighted to have brought yet another fantastic artist to Castle Park.
