A West Cumbrian man was spared an immediate jail sentence after he admitted carrying a large knife in a public place.
Ellis Joseph Dixon, 22, of Ribton Moorside in Hensingham, Whitehaven, appeared at the magistrates' court in Workington on Friday.
The court heard that on May 31, Dixon was carrying a large knife in Inkerman Terrace, Whitehaven.
He was committed to prison for four months but the sentence was suspended for a year.
Magistrates said the offence was serious because to the defendant was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and he tried to dispose of evidence.
However, the sentence was suspended due to Dixon showing remorse and a lack of maturity.
He must abide by a four-month curfew between 6pm and 6am daily. He must also complete 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.
Dixon was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge.
