Cumbria Police have confirmed that the body of a man found this morning in Workington is that of missing 91-year-old Gerard Doran.

Mr Doran, known as Ged, was found on land between High Harrington and Salterbeck, at about 10.50am today after a public search.

The circumstances are not believed to be suspicious at this time. And the coroner has been informed.

Police have thanked the many thousands of people who shared the appeal for information about Mr Doran’s whereabouts on social media.

Officers would also like to thank the hundreds who turned out for the organised search today.

West Cumbrians had turned out in force this morning to help in the hunt.

Hundreds of people had joined a public search organised by Cumbria police to try and find Mr Doran, who has been missing since last Thursday.

People met at the fire station in Moorclose to begin the search at 10am.

Police were overwhelmed by the response from the local community and the number that came to help. Over 200 people were split into groups of 20 to assist with the search over fields and industrial estates. Volunteers included people from Maryport, Egremont and Whitehaven.
