THE emergency services dealt with a crash on the A689 between Harperley and Wolsingham, in Weardale, on Monday.
Durham Police say the road was closed for several hours.
A spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted to a road traffic collision on the A689 between Harperley and Wolsingham at about 5.25pm.
"We had an appliances from Crook and Bishop Auckland attend, along with a special rescue unit. There is currently a police investigation underway."
The Northern Echo has requested further information from Durham Police, but an update has not yet been provided.
