A FUNDRAISING page has smashed its target to raise money for a beloved biker’s funeral.

Colin Chapman, 50, died following a motorbike crash on July 3 on the A127.

Mr Chapman, a former Canvey resident and owner of CL Chapman Building Services on the island, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, and sadly died as a result of his injuries on Saturday July 6.

A fundraising page initially set up to help with his rehabilitation has now raised £5,900, beating its target of £5,000, which will now be used to cover the cost of his funeral.

Mr Chapman was known nationally for his relationship with sex worker and social influencer Charlotte Rose.

Posting on the fundraising page, friend Mark Hassell said: “I am so touched by all the love, support and kind donations. This is really going to help Charlotte and the family. So a big thank you from me. I truly couldn’t have imagined getting to this mark in such a short time. But it shows just how much Colin was loved by so many people. This is great comfort at this devastating time. I will keep this page running for anyone else that wants to support it.”

The Metropolitan Police are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage of the crash on the A127 near the Hall Lane Interchange at 9am.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old woman, stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

Det Con Darren Case, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) at the Metropolitan Police, said: “I am particularly keen to hear from the occupants of two vehicles who were travelling behind Mr Chapman’s motorcycle and would have witnessed the collision – these vehicles are described as a white van and a black car. Please get in contact as soon as possible.”
