SOUTHEND United’s first team coach Svetoslav Todorov was pleased with aspects of the Shrimpers’ 3-2 win at Billericay Town – but stressed there was still plenty to work on.

Goals from Corey Jordan, Rob Kiernan and Stephen Humphrys saw Blues beat their National League South hosts.

And Todorov was happy with the win.

“There were some good performances but there are a lot of things which still need to be done and we will work on them on the training ground,” said the former Portsmouth forward.

“We are pleased with the work the boys are putting in and a lot of them got minutes.

“Those who didn’t play as much ran after the game and the work will continue tomorrow.”

The Shrimpers scored all three of their goals from corners but Todorov admitted the team had yet to work on set pieces.

“We haven’t worked on them yet but I think all the boys just know each other,” said Todorov.

“It worked well and we tried out a few things.

“We’ve played different shapes and systems and we will try out different ideas to be ready for the start of the season.”

And Todorov was also quick to praise the goal scored by Humphrys after the striker slammed home a well struck shot from long range.

“It was a great goal,” said Todorov.

“He’s a goalscorer but he has to keep working hard just like he has been doing.

“But everyone needs to keep working hard and we have to keep going.”
