SOUTHEND United manager Kevin Bond felt it was a ‘good exercise’ for his players against Reading this afternoon.
The Shrimpers started their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 defeat against the Royals in a behind closed doors friendly.
But Bond was happy to see 22 members of his squad in action.
“It was a good exercise and it was a good first game for us to have,” said Bond.
“Everyone who has been training with us got 45 minutes and it was their first taste of a match as we get ready for the new season.
“It was a warm day but we learnt one or two things and everyone who played came through the game OK.
“They all got 45 minutes and I’m happy with how it went.”
The Shrimpers included Bournemouth defender Corey Jordan, ex Crawley Town left-back Andre Blackman and former Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Lyden in their squad.
Blues first half: Oxley, Howard, Kiernan, Taylor, Blackman, Hutchinson, Mantom, Milligan, McLaughlin, Humphrys, Goodship.
Second half: Bishop, Bwomono, Jordan, Lennon, Clifford, Lyden, Yearwood, Klass, Kelman, Robinson, Acquah.
