93-year-old woman robbed in Albion Road, Westcliff

Detectives are appealing to members of the public for information about the incident which left the elderly lady with a head injury.

The broad daylight attack happened on Albion Road, Westcliff, at 11.15am on Tuesday and police believe it may be linked to a second attempted robbery in the area.

The woman was approached by two men on bikes, who knocked her to the floor, causing her to hit her head.

The men then rode away from the scene on their push bikes leaving the woman lying in the street.

An ambulance was called and the woman was taken to Southend Hospital for further treatment, where she remains in a stable condition and is believed to be making a recover.

Police are investigating whether the incident is related to another similar attack that happened earlier on the same day.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Our officers are investigating whether this incident is linked to the attempted theft of a woman’s bag in Prittlewell Chase. This happened at around 10.50am on the same day.

“A woman in her 20s reported that two men on bikes approached her and tried to take her handbag without success.

“The men have been described by the victim as being white, believed to be aged in their late 30s and wore black hoodies with the hood up and jeans.

“One of the men possibly had a tattoo across his right temple.”

The woman was left uninjured in the second incident.

Anyone with information about either incident should call detectives at Southend CID as soon as possible on 101.

They should quote crime reference numbers 42/59600/19 for the Albion Road incident and 42/59603/19 for the incident in Prittlewell Chase.
