A MAN was attacked by two yobs after enjoying a night out at a popular pub.

The victim was beaten by two men outside the Haystack Pub, Furtherwick Road, Canvey.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The victim’s sister took to Facebook to issue a warning.

She said: “My brother went to the Haystack pub, no trouble had a good night, went to call a cab and got beaten.

“This was a totally random attack.

“Police are investigating, so to say it politely we will stop the scumbags that done it.”

Island councillors said the community must stand strong against this.

Jan Payne, Canvey Independent councillor for Canvey South said: “This is a horrific attack.

“He is only a young man, I have a son aged 24.

“We should feel safe on our streets, and people should be able to leave a pub after a night out safely.

“I would defiantly urge residents not to be put off by this.

“Businesses still need to make a living and people still need to go out.

“I hope this is an isolated incident.

“Someone must have seen it or know something about what happened.

“These men may have told their family or friends about what they did.”

Mrs Payne urged witnesses to report any information to Essex Police.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received a report of an assault on man on Furtherwick Road, Canvey, on Saturday April 13.

“It was reported that shortly before 1am, a man in his 20s left the Haystack pub when two men approached and assault him.

“The man was treated in hospital for non-life changing injuries.

“Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact the Canvey Local Policing Team on 101, quoting reference 42/57846/19.”

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or see crimestoppers-uk.org/”
