Hundreds of passengers were stranded after fog caused eight flights to be diverted from Southend Airport.

The misty conditions means the flights were diverted to Gatwick, Luton and Stansted last night.

Passengers took to Twitter to find out what had happened.

A Southend Airport spokesman said: "Due to fog causing poor visibility, eight flights which were due to land at London Southend last night had to be diverted to other airports to ensure they were able to land safely."
