Two people have been arrested for a host of offences after a person was hit by a car on Pier Hill. 

Essex Police descended on the incident at 10.30pm on Wednesday night. 

It was reported that a car had mounted the pavement and hit a man, before fleeing the scene. 

The man, in his 30s, suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. 

A 26-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman from Southend were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a vehicle involved in a road accident and failing to stop or report it, drug driving and intention to pervert the course of public justice. 

The woman was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving. 

They have both been released under investigation. 

Officers would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a car matching this description in the area following the incident, possibly with damage to the windscreen or bonnet.
