A FORMER finance manager at the University of York has appeared before the city’s magistrates charged with stealing from his ex-employers.

Adam Gyrth Regis, 51, is alleged to have stolen items worth together £15,853 while looking after the finances of the Stockholm Environment Institute on the Heslington campus.

He is accused of using the university’s credit card and Amazon account between January 1, 2014, and September 1, 2018, without permission.

Regis, of Aberdeen Terrace, Scarborough, did not enter a plea to the charge of theft.

York magistrates decided the case was too serious for them to deal with and sent him to York Crown Court where he will appear on April 29 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He has been dismissed from the university job which he had held since 2005.
