Detectives in Chelmsford are investigating an incident where a woman was attacked with an unknown substance in South Woodham Ferrers.
Officers were called just before 2.50am on March 9 to reports that a woman, aged in her late teens, had been injured.
She was given medical advice at the scene but did not go to hospital for further treatment.
The liquid, which appeared to irritate the eyes and face of the victim, did not cause serious injuries.
Essex Police believe the targeted incident occurred between Treebeard Copse and The Withwindle between 2am and 2.30am that morning and are urging any witnesses to come forward.
