A student was attacked by a gang during an argument over a bike near a school.

The youngster was approached by the youths who attempted to get him off his bike near De La Salle School in Basildon yesterday.

Students and parents reported spotting officers at the school.

A number of rumours of a stabbing were circulating on social media but the school has insisted this is not the case.

A spokesperson for De La Salle School said: “A student suffered minor injuries on Monday afternoon when a group of youths, who do not attend this school, attempted to pull the student off his bicycle.

“A scuffle took place in which the student suffered grazes and bruises.

“The incident did not take place on school premises. Support has been given by the school to the student who has now returned to school.

“The police have been informed and are investigating.”
