MARK Bentley is hoping Canvey Island will continue their fine run of form by overcoming one of his former clubs tomorrow.

Bentley enjoyed a two-year stint on the books of Grays Athletic, where he was also player-manager.

And Bentley is eager to see his Canvey side overcome Jamie Stuart’s Grays at the Frost Hire Stadium.

“It’s always nice playing against one of your former clubs and it’s particularly good when you beat them,” said Bentley.

“I was at Grays for two years and made some really good friends there, so it will nice catch up with them.

“I played with Jamie Stuart during my first year at Southend.

“You are guaranteed 100 per cent effort from him and his side.

“I know what to expect from his sides and I also went to see them against Aveley in midweek.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Jamie, but I’m hoping to get the three points.”

The Gulls are looking to defend their unbeaten record since the turn of the year.

And Bentley is pleased with the form of frontman Adam Vyse.

“Vysey had been the subject of a bit of criticism because he had been getting into good areas but not taking his chances,” added the Canvey boss.

“But now he is scoring goals and the belief in the changing room is good.

“There is no better feeling in football than winning matches and hopefully we can continue the run we’re on.”
