More than 100 people turned up to a meeting about controversial plans for a major new development.

Residents filled out Flitch Green Community Hall to hear details about a proposal for up to 240 homes on land to the east of Station Road.

An application from Gladman Developments has been submitted to Uttlesford District Council and is expected to be considered by the end of this year.

Parish chairman John Doughty said: “This land falls into Little Dunmow Parish Council, therefore we would not be receiving any tax from that.

“There are no facilities included with the plan, not even a medical facility. But they claim the local infrastructure can cope.

“The data they used for their proposal is quite interesting. It assumes there are 800 homes and it uses the 2011 census which isn’t accurate.

“We don’t want the three villages to join up because then we will have an urban sprawl.

“We could really do with hundreds of written representatives, that’s what could do it.”

With the proposed plan, there is a potential for an extra 700 people and up to 400 more cars on the road.

Concerns about the bid include child safety near roads, water drainage and a strain on telecom provisions for the area.

Uttlesford councillor Stephanie Harris added: “This is absolutely a local developer trying to come in and arguing that we don’t have enough houses.

“We have been working with our boundary colleagues in Braintree Council to make sure that the plans we receive match up to the demand.

“This type of application brings nothing to the community.”

Resident Brian Moore has lived in Priory Lane for more than 60 years.

Mr Moore said: “The views from Little Dunmow all the way up to Felsted will definitely be lost forever.”

The consultation period ends today.

A ballot box for residents to vote will be left at the community centre until the period ends.
