BURGLARS held knives to the throat of their victim in his home while demanding cash.

The armed raiders drew blood while threatening to slit the throat of the victim during a terrifying raid.

It took place in broad daylight at about midday on Tuesday on Devonshire Road, Laindon.

While the victim’s throat was slit the wound was superficial and did not require hospital treatment.

The knifemen are described as wearing brown-coloured clothing.

They made off towards Victoria Road with a sum of cash, although the amount has not been confirmed.

Residents and community leaders spoke of their concern following the latest armed incident.

Former Labour councillor Pat Rackley, of Devonshire Road, said: “We did wonder what was going on when we saw the police van parked in the road.

“I think this is appalling.

“It just makes me wonder what is going on.

“Why on earth do people have knives and weapons on them.

“Thank goodness the man was okay and not too badly hurt.

“It does make me feel concerned that this is going on, we’ve lived here for 34 years and we have a nice little community here.

“I think this is very scary and sounds particularly horrific.

“It is just so awful and I think that other residents will feeling concerned and worried that this has happened here.

“I do not think there is ever any need for violence like this and I don’t think anything excuses people using force against other people.”

Detectives are appealing for help from the public to find the armed assailants.

It is not clear if the knifemen were known to the resident or whether this was an unprovoked and random attack.
