POLICE investigating an armed robbery are urgently appealing for help to track down a potential witness to the incident.

The robbery took place at the Canvey Island Social Club, in Lionel Road at around 10.25pm on Saturday, November 10.

Investigating officers are appealing to find a man, who is a potential witness, who they believe spoke to someone who might have been acting as a lookout at the time of the incident.

It was reported two men went into the club and carried out the robbery, with a third person outside acting as a lookout.

During the robbery, two men went into the club and threatened staff and customers with what has been described as a firearm.

The club is thought to have not been busy at the time but there were customers there celebrating a birthday. The men escaped from the premises with an estimated £190 from the till.

A spokesman for Essex Police: “We believe a man may have had contact with that person and we need to find him and speak to them as a witness.

“We believe this man may have been dropped off by a taxi and we need to trace the driver too.”

Two men have been arrested and charged over the incident.

James Gubb, 38, of no fixed abode in Basildon, has been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Mickey Murphy, 21, of First Avenue, Canvey, has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and one of attempted robbery. They are both due back in court on January 14.
