A BASILDON boy, whose cancer was so aggressive his chances of survival were slim, has “kicked cancer’s butt” and is in remission.

Micky Bennett’s family are overjoyed at the news they thought they may never hear.

The brave 11-year-old has been fighting a four-month battle with a rare form of Leukaemia, T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic.

His family were told to start “making memories” with him as his chances of survival were so slim.

However, tests have now revealed he is now in remission.

Micky, who was a rising Motorcross star before becoming ill, will still go through with a bone marrow transplant from his dad who is a partial match.

A huge campaign was launched to find him a complete match, with footballer Harry Kane and rapper Stormzy getting involved.

His mum, Lisa Hicks, said she was overwhelmed by the support.

She said: “We know we still have a massive journey and the transplant will not be a walk in the park, but we were told a few months back that we would never achieve this and we should make memories with Micky.

“I know it’s all the communities coming together that are getting our baby through.

“We have had all races, religions and cultures coming together praying - Sikh, Muslim, travellers, to mention just a few.

“When it comes to something like this it fills you with pride to know we stand as one.

“I brought my son into this world, but all the communities have come together to help raise him, and what a fine young man he is turning in to.

“All he wants to do is pay it forwards. He is already speaking about coming back after his bone marrow and doing things for GOSH and supporting the children going through cancer and I am bursting with pride.”
