This week in Down Memory Lane we look at the aftermath of WW1 and remember the hundreds of men who never came home to Thurrock.
The photos on this page are a snapshot of memorials that sprung up across the borough as people wanted to mourn their family members as there were no graves here in England with them all being buried in France and Belgium.
The ones shown are the opening ceremonies for Chadwell, Grays, Little Thurrock and Stanford-le-Hope in 1920 but there were many more across the borough.
We must never forget the sacrifice given by them as the world would have been a very different place today if these brave souls had not fought and won our freedom.
