A woman is still in a critical condition after a crash in Southend.
A black Ford C-Max and a white Mini Cooper collided shortly before 4.40am yesterday on the A127 Southend bound carriageway at the junction near Kent Elms medical centre.
The driver of the Mini Cooper, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital with a head injury
The road was closed for several hours.
A 36-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A spokesman from Essex Police has confirmed the woman is still seriously injured.
He said: "A 36 year-old man has been released under investigation.
"The driver of the Mini Cooper is still in a critical condition."
