A major road was closed in both directions after a serious crash has left a woman severely injured.

Police attended the scene of a collision on the A127 near Kent Elms Health Surgery in Southend on Sunday.

A black Ford C-Max and a white Mini Cooper were in collision shortly before 4.40am today (Sunday, November 11).

The driver of the Mini Cooper, a woman in her 20s, has been taken to hospital with a head injury and her condition has been described as potentially life-threatening.

Officers closed the road in both directions to investigate and need anyone who saw the collision or was driving on the road and has dash cam footage to come forward.
