There will be free parking on the four Saturdays in December in the Rochford district.

Rochford Council agreed to get rid of parking charges it its car parks on December 1, 8, 15 and 22.

The council’s portfolio holder for enterprise, councillor George Ioannou, said: “With Christmas coming the council wishes to do all it can to assist both residents and businesses within our district.

“Through careful budgeting by the council’s officers, we are delighted to be able to continue with what has now become our traditional free parking on the four Saturdays in the run up to Christmas.

“This is just one of the many initiatives we run to support our local economy and encourage residents to shop locally.

"This year also sees the introduction of Saturday markets in Rayleigh High Street so you can take your time and wonder through the stalls without having to worry about extending your parking ticket.

“We hope this small gesture may go some way to ensure that you and your family have a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.”
