A SCHOOL took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

After a visit to the local branch of the RNLI at Southend Pier, class 3H from St Nicholas School decided a sponsored walk would be a good opportunity to raise funds for the charity.

The school was also visited from a member of the RNLI who told the pupils how to stay safe near water during the summer holidays. The student’s sponsored walk was from Thorpe Hall Avenue to East Beach, raising £588.

Alison Holmes, headteacher, said: “It is really important for our young people to be involved in the community and contribute to it like this.”

The cheque was presented to the RNLI by students and headteacher, Laura Fox.
