FitzWimarc kids shine at multi-event championships

IT was a successful day for FitzWimarc School boys at the Essex Schools’ Multi-Event Championships.
Josh Prentice was crowned champion in the intermediate boys pentathlon, with team-mates Daniel Stratton and Dan Sheffield making it a clean medal sweep for the school.
While in the junior boys pentathlon, Jack Longhurst took the title with fellow Fitz pupil Rhys Collings coming third.
Prentice, who competes for Basildon AC, amassed 2,418 points over his five events (100mh 15.6s, 400m 55.3s PB, LJ 5.45m, DT 40.72m and javelin 11.60m). Stratton’s 2,063 points were enough to finish runner-up. His finishing card read 100mh 14.9s, 400m 59.4s, LJ 5.50m, DT 17.89m, JT 23.81m.
Sheffield collected 1,893 points with his scoring breakdown reading 400m (58.5s), 100m hurdles (17.4s), long jump (5.80m), discus (19.60m) and javelin (19.80m).
The junior boys competition was a much tighter affair with Longhurst (2,481 points) just edging out Eastwood School’s Cameron Carter Vickers (2,472).
Longhurst’s individual events were 80m hurdles (12.3s), high jump (1.65m), (long jump 5.33m), shot (11.60m), 800m (2m 34.2s).
Carter Vickers’ card read 80m hurdles (12.1s), high jump (1.47m), long jump (4.99m), shot (12.83m), 800m (2m 26.0s).
Third-placed Collings was not too far behind the top two finishing with 2,383 points (80mh 12.0s, HJ 1.56m, LJ 4.90m, SP 9.02m, 800m 2m 26.0s).
The best placed south Essex finisher in the junior girls event was King John’s Antonia Tidy-Jones (2,211 points), Eastwood’s Holly Coughlan (eighth, 2,092) and King John’s Kiera Tippett (ninth, 2,060) also made the top 10.
