ALTHOUGH proudly enjoying the thrill of again representing Great Britain, Southend High School for Girls star athlete Georgia Atkins has learned the thin line between success and failure of sport at the highest level.
Competing in the World School Games in Doha, Qatar, the 16-year-old finished just 13 100ths of a second away from qualifying for the final in her specialist event, the 100 metres hurdles.
Running in the first of two heats, Georgia finished fifth in a time of 14.69 seconds and, with the first three in each plus two fastest others going through to the final, had the ninth best time.
This saw her miss out by one place as the fastest final qualifying place went to an athlete on 14.56.
Georgia also missed out when the British girls finished fourth in their heat of the medley relay.
