CASTLE Point Joggers took 24 members to the Southend 10k, with a trio of competitors taking part in their first ever 10k.

Cathy Eve, Amie Bright and Jill Waight were the debutants over the distance, while Nicolle Bass, Lucy Bissell, Jo McNeilly, Kairen Hart and Tracey Bradley registered personal best times.

The first Castle Point Joggers representative to cross the finish line was Rick Wade, who took 42 minutes and 28 seconds to complete the event.

As a result, Wade was able to clinch 116th place.

The other members to complete the popular race were Colin Dunn, Mark Colquhoun, Gary Bright, James Austin, Mike Hayward, June Freed, Mark Whitney, Patrick Waters. Tina and Kevin Victory, Carol Hardy, Albert Miles, Chris Cammidge, Helen Leavold and Julie Davison.

Meanwhile, Martin Howlett crossed the county border into Kent as he took on the Maverick Inov-8 Original.

Howlett put in an impressive performance to complete the middle distance event - which consisted of 14km - in a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 53 seconds.

Out of a field of 122 runners, Howlett secured seventh spot.

Elsewhere, John Archer travelled to the Welsh capital to test himself in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Archer competed in his first ever race at the same event last year, and finished in two hours, 21 minutes and 29 seconds.

But Archer improved upon that performance by crossing the finish line more than 22 minutes earlier, in a time of one hour, 58 minutes and 45 seconds.
