Jessica Judd’s mother has spoken of her pride on the eve of her daughter’s appearance at the World Championships Jessica will be competing in the women’s 1500m at the London Stadium, which hosted the 2012 Olympics.

And Cheryl Judd is looking forward to seeing Jessica representing Great Britain on the international stage once again.

Cheryl said: “I am so proud of her.

“Jessica has had a difficult couple of seasons so it was fantastic to see her get a place at the World Championships.

“It is such a big event in the athletics calendar so to see her competing for her country on home soil in the World Championships will be fantastic.”

Jessica, 22, booked her place in the Great Britain squad after finishing second in the women’s 1500m final at the selection trials, which were held at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, last month.

En route to the selection trials women’s 1500m final, Jessica competed alongside her sister Jodie in the qualifier.

The Rochford-born star already has experience in competing on an international stage.

Jessica represented Great Britain at the 2013 World Championships, in Russia, and ran at both the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games during the following season.

And Cheryl admitted that Jessica will have a lot of support at the London Stadium, which is expected to be full.

Cheryl added: “Jessica will have her family there and a lot of her friends in attendance.

“Jessica’s sister, Jodie, was involved in the World Championships qualifiers alongside Jessica in the women’s 1500m, but she will be there in the box helping Chelmsford Athletics Club.

“Her dad is also her coach so he will obviously be there as well cheering her on.”

Jessica, who is from Canvey, will be involved in the women’s 1500m event, with round one scheduled to get underway at 7:35pm.

Should the former Castle View School pupil progress from the first round, she will then take part in the semi-final, which is set to start 24 hours later.

The women’s 1500m final will see the world’s quickest runners go head-to-head at 9:50pm on Monday.
