DAN Slayford led the local runners home in the London 10K, recording a fantastic personal best in the process.

Slayford, of Flyers Southend, was part of a team of 21 that travelled to London on Bank Holiday Monday taking in the sights, with the same finish outside Buckingham Palace being used as in the marathon a few weeks earlier.

Slayford finished in 372nd spot, in a field of over 17000, to record a time of 37m 48s PB, his second in two days after his effort at Burnham-on-Crouch.

The other runners were Matt Barrett, Graham Purdham, Lloyd Richardson, Anne Purdham, Jacqueline Sutton, Rich Pryor, Rachael Thornton, Nicky Carter, Vanessa Fraser, Keith Passingham, Lianne Oxlade, Jacky Halls, Debbie Wood, Laura Llewelyn, Lorraine Hamilton, Lisa Fuller, Lucy Wood, Tina Boswell, Lin Taylor and Val Taylor.

Leigh-on-Sea had three members representing them in the capital on Monday: Nikki Baynes, Natalie Lewis and Rachel Geary.

Baynes was first back for LoSS in 43:24, then Geary and Lewis, both getting PBs in 51:04 and 55:45 respectively.

Twenty three Benfleet Running Club runners lined up in Hyde Park corner with Andrew Low crossing the line at Buckingham Palace in 38:30 ahead of Michael Bebbington (42:57).

There was also a notable milestone for Benfleet's Barbara Oliver overcame a five-year target of a sub hour 10K with 59:42, putting her second in her age category.

The other finishers were (43:52), Ian Banthorpe (45:46), Stephen Wise (45:55), Daniel Lyons (47:46), Nikki Panter (51:17), Stuart Ross (51:18 (unofficial)), Melanie Anthony (51:21 (unofficial)), Mark Cowan (51:21), Graham Douglass (52:02), Chris Chappell (52:59), Jennie Spittle (56:54) and Terry Allen (57:53), Joanne Key (1:02:37), Julie Peacock (1:02:38), Natalie Kitchen (1:03:40), Susan Horton (1:03:45), Richard Dyson (1:05:00), Lynda Crisp (1:05:04), Cynthia Thomas (1:08:03) and John Crisp (1:25:40).

Rachel Welch was the first Castle Point Joggers runners across the line in 59:35, ahead of Brian Welch (1:03:26), Tracy Bliss (1:09:10), Clive Dunnico (1:16:20), Michelle Miller (1:18:05) and Stuart Pickup (1:18:05).
