JESSICA Judd added a touch of star quality to the annual Boxing Day Crown to Crown 5km.

The Great Britain international broke her own course record which she set nearly three years ago, clocking 18m 1s around the tough, undulating course in Langdon Hills Country Park.

Judd, from Canvey, was spending Christmas back in Essex with family before heading back to Loughborough University.

And it was another Loughborough student who won the race overall.

Alec Finch, of Thurrock Harriers, had a very impressive run to finish in 16m 49s.

Basildon AC’s Grant Webb was the next home in 17m 15s with his younger brother Mason not much further back in 17m 41s.

Daniel Ashley (Basildon AC) finsihed strongly to get past Judd in the closing stages and finish fourth in 17m 56s with Judd finishing fifth overall.

Andrew Reeves was sixth before two more Basildon AC youngsters came home, Brandon Thorpe (seventh, 18m 31s) and Christian Gray (eighth, 18m 39s).

Langdon Hills resident Chris Wayman was ninth in 18m 44s and Greg Deacon rounded out the top 10 in 18m 53s.

The second woman to finish was Khai Mhlanga (19m 12s) while Basildon AC’s Emma Houchell was third in 19m 32s.

Nearly 300 runners finished the event which is hosted by Pitsea Running Club.

The next edition of the race will be on Good Friday.
