SOUTHEND AC had a succesful day at the Eastern Cross-Country Championships at Colchesters’ Hilly Fields.

The Seasiders dominated the veterans section, winning three individual gold medals and one top team prize.

Claire Cornwell won the women’s over-35 category, with Lee Taylor winning the men’s over-40 and Peter Binns the men’s over-65.

Led by Cornwell, the women’s team also won gold with Tracy English and Sarah Pennington making up the scoring trio.

English won an individual silver medal in the over-35s section while Natasha Lagden was the second over-40.

Simon Le Mare picked up a silver medal in the over-50s while the Southend men’s squad won team bronze.

Taylor, Le Mare, Gary Cheek, Mike Monkton, Jeff Bolton and Mathew Gillard were the scoring team.

In the youth age groups, Joanna Rimmington added to the medal tally by finishing third in the under-15 girls race.
