BILLERICAY Striders’ Crispian Bloomfield took individual glory at the Chelmsford 10k with a young Basildon AC squad taking the team title.

Bloomfield won the typically fast race in 32m 9s with former Basildon AC athlete Scott Sterling continuing his road back to fitness finishing second in 32m 53s.

The first of the four Basildon athletes home was Grant Webb who finished third in a new personal best (PB) of 33m 14s.

In fact the entire quartet of Basildon runners got PBs with Stephen Strange (10th, 34m 24s), Daniel Ashley (16th, 35m 14s) and Christian Gray (18th, 35m 57s) making up the team.

Southend AC’s Anne Jenkinson added another gold medal to her growing collection with a win in the V35 category. She finished sixth woman overall in 41m 46s – her fastest time this year and her second fastest run ever.

First home for Southend as expected was Tyrone Farrer whose time of 36m 05s was good enough for 21st place and the third V40 home. Eight places later, and with a new personal best of 37m 20s.

Other Southend finishers included Kasia Kostyrka-Allchorn (46m 13s), Glen Taylor (47m 19s), Debbielyn Hallam – who knocked three seconds off her best with 48m 57s – Nic Vincent (53m 39s) and Victoria Irvine (59m 29s PB).

A total of 19 Leigh Striders took part in the Chelmsford 10k. Andy Prior was first man back in bang on 39m 00s, and Debra Mangham was first LoSS lady in 47m 22s. New member James Shoobert, running his first ever 10k, in 44m 44s.

Benfleet RC had a big turn out at the Chelmsford 10k with their first seven athletes all dipping under 40 minutes. Dan Carter led them home in 23rd place overall (36m 20s) followed by Adam Chapman (37m 39s), Damien Harvey (38m 15s), Paul Delaney (38m 35s), Alan Clark (38m 50s), Richard Jones (39m 21s) and Ciaran Byrne (39m 35s). The Benfleet ladies also showed their metal led by Shelley Hall (44m 32s), Angela Hall (45m 21s) and Kelly McClenaghan (48m 59s).

Pitsea RC had ten runners in Chelmsford, with Jack Morris leading them home in 39m 06s. Cheryl MacDonald was the club’s first lady home in 51m 22s.
