WINS for Abigail Ives, Sinead Clark and Jodie Judd showed the girls are alright at the latest round of the Essex Cross-Country League at Hockley.

Basildon AC’s Ives won the under-13 girls race for the second fixture in a row, Benfleet Running Club’s Sinead Clark was the winner in the under17/20 women’s race while Judd, aged just 17, ran away with the senior women’s race.

Ives, who is in her first year in the under-13 age group, had another incredible race, finishing well clear as the first girl and with only seven of the under-13 boys in front of her.

She also helped the Basildon team to top the team stadings.

Kierra Scott was the next of the New Towners home in fourth position while Hollie Rex was 11th and Sophie Wetheridge 12th.

Thurrock Harriers finished as the second team with Demi Eaves (seventh), Holly Dowsett-Ward (ninth), Demi Briggs (13th) and Hannah Peacock (20th) the scoring quartet.

Harry Parker, of Thurrock Harriers, was the winner of the under-13 boys race with Basildon’s Daniel Houchell running well to finish a handful of seconds bacn in second place.

Harriers topped the team stadings with Finlay Lowe (fifth), Jamie Mack (17th) and Dylan Harrid (24th) the scorers.

Southend AC’s George Hay ran well for 10th place.

Joanna Rimmington, of Southend AC, finished in second place in the under-15 girls race, one spot ahead of Thurrock Harriers’ Amber Pullinger.

Hayley Instance, also of Thurrock, was seventh and Benfleet RC’s Grace Goodall eighth.

The Basildon AC team finished second in the team standings. There team was: Abbey Rex (21st), Grace Burrell (27th), Charlotte George (35th) and Ella Findlay (37th).

Southend AC were second in the under-15 boys team standings, led by Sam Norris in eighth and Thomas Stuttle in 10th. Mitchell Lawrence (11th) and Ollie Randall (13th) completed the team.

Taylor Newell (Thurrock Harriers) was seventh.

In the under-17/20 women’s race, Clark ran strongly to pull away from the rest of the field to cliam the victory.

Her Benfleet team-mate Victoria Hiscock came through the field to finish in fourth.

Basildon AC finished as the second team with Niamh Smith leading them in sixth position, followed by Jemima Walker (eighth), Gemma Archer-Haley (11th) and Meg Rapley (13th).

Toby Wright (Southend AC) paced his race perfectly to finish a superb second in the under-17 men’s race while Basildon AC duo Gus Withers and Mason Webb were in sixth and seventh place respectively.

Jodie Judd won the senior women's race

Judd was always in front of the senior women’s race while Southend AC’s Kerry Holland continued her return to racing with third place.

Her team-mate Claire Cornwell was ninth as Southend finished second in the division one team standings, with Tracy English (16th) and Sarah Pennington (22nd) completing the team.

Basildon AC topped the division two table led by an impressive run from Laura Brooks in fourth.

Louise Douglass was 13th, Charlotte Bishop 19th and Caroline Horden 31st.

In the senior men’s race, Basildon AC’s Grant Webb continued his good form this winter with a third place.
