BILLERICAY Striders’ Crispian Bloomfield was a comfortable winner of the second Chelmsford Marathon.

The veteran Billericay Striders runner finished in 2h 37m 14s which was more than 10 minutes ahead of the second and third-placed athletes.

That duo, Michael Beaver and Benfleet RC’s Andrew Low, came in together in 2h 48m 40s.

Low’s Benfleet team-mate James Caldon finished in ninth place in 2h 56m 42s.

The women’s race was a lot closer with Billericay Striders’ Emma Prideaux missing out on the win by just 19 seconds.

Prideaux finished in 2h 57m 6s, just behind winner Nikki Brockbank (Springfield Striders, 2h 56m 47s).

But the consolation for Prideaux was she dipped under the magical three-hour barrier for the first time.

As well as their two men in the top 10, Benfleet RC had three other runners competing: Michael Banham (3h 38m 27s), Tom Byrne (03:43:15) and Steve Wise (3h 53m 26s) and Kevin Judge (4h 15m 53s)
