ADAM Hickey opened his autumn racing season with a win at the Leigh on Sea 10k.

The Southend AC athlete looked in good form as he won in 31m 6s, a decent time on an undulating course.

His team-mate, and Southend 10k winner, Paul Whittaker was second in 31m 29s.

Langdon Hills resident Owen Cima was third in 33m 17s.

Southend AC’s Rhys Gillard was fourth in 34m 30s while Matibini Matibini was the first of the home Leigh on Sea Striders’ athletes home in fifth place (35m 12s) and the first V40 overall.

East Essex Tri teenager Harrison Smith ran very well for sixth place (35m 18s), just ahead of Basildon AC’s Stephen Strange (35m 30s).

Lee Taylor (Southend AC) was ninth in 36m 30s, one place ahead of team-mate Peter Smale (36m 53s).

Simon Le Mare (Leigh on Sea Striders) won the V50 category in 37m 55s.

Rochford Running Club’s Lindsey Colman was the first female finisher (39m 59s) with Leigh on Sea Striders’ Elisabet Barnes second (40m 46s) and Dawn Yuille third (42m 21s).
