SOUTHEND High School for Girls will once again have two teams at the English Schools Cross-Country Cup final.

The school’s intermediate and junior girls team both qualified for the final in Cornwall in two weeks’ time at the regional final held in St Albans last week.

They will be joined in the south-west by Southend High School for Boys’ junior boys squad.

The High School for Girls’ intermediate girls team were led home by Joanna Rimmington who had a brilliant run to finish in seventh place in her first year in the age group.

Katie Faint was one place back in eighth position with Megan Richardson (22nd) and Juliette Le Mare (25th) completing the High School’s scoring team as they finished second overall.

The junior girls team was spearheaded by Isabelle Bates who ran superbly to finish fifth and was well supported by Hannah Phipps (14th), Natalie Smith (24th) and Nieve Donnolly (33rd) as the team finished third overall.

The High School for Boys junior boys squad finished second in their race with Luca Albon having a great run to finish fifth and Andrei Gare also shining as he finished 10th.

Ethan Bird (14th) and Frank Macwan (16th) completed the scoring team.

The school’s intermediate boys team did not manage to make it through as they finished sixth overall with Sam Jones their top finisher in seventh spot.

Eastwood School’s intermediate boys finished one place ahead of Southend High, with Gus Withers having a top run to finish fourth and Rushwan Lewis also finishing towards the head of the field in 10th.

Eastwood’s junior boys team went one better and finished in fifth spot overall with Louie Sach leading the way in 20th place.

Their junior girls team was 11th with Amelia Mart the top finisher in 13th.

FitzWimarc School’s junior boys team were sixth with Alex Bragg leading their charge in 15th spot, while the intermediate boys were 12th with Luke Bowen their leading runner in 26th.

Sinead Clark had a fine individual run in the intermediate girls race, finishing sixth and helping her Fitz team to eighth overall while the junior girls team were 14th with Caitlin Fowler their first runner home in 36th.

King John School had three teams competing with their intermediate girls team, led by Niamh Smith in 12th, finishing fifth overall.

Their junior girls were 11th, with Lucy Brewster first home in 28th, and the intermediate boys 13th with Bruce O’Dea the first back in 20th.

Jack Woolf had a terrific run for King Edmund School’s intermediate boys team.

Woolf finished fifth individually as his team came home seventh.

Their intermediate girls team were ninth with Charlotte Brooks their leading individual in 13th.

Westcliff High School for Girls had two teams competing in St Albans.

Their junior girls, led by Holly Guy in 27th, finished 15th and their intermediate girls 14th, led by Jenna Williams in 33rd.

Appleton School were seventh in the junior boys section with Teddy Warwick (12th) just edging out Matthew Stevens-Brown (13th) to be first home.

Greensward Academy, led by Sam Richardson in 18th, were eighth in the same category and Woodlands School ninth. Connor Butler-Brown was their first runner home in 30th.
