ORION Harriers’ Nick Shasha won the biggest Leigh on Sea 10km yet.

More than 650 runners finished the event and it was Shasha who led them all home in 33m 45s.

Fresh from his second race in as many days, Southend AC’s Rhys Gillard was the second man home in 34m 14s.

Leigh-on-Sea Striders’ Elisabet Barnes was the female winner in her home race, crossing the line in 41m 55s.

Finishing fourth overall was Southend runner Chris Hatton (35m 35s) with Basildon AC’s Sebastian Cirillo fifth in 36m 01s.

Neil Spicer was the first of the Leigh-on-Sea Striders’ contingent home in 36m 47s with Benfleet duo James Caldon (36m 58s) and Terry Spooner (37m 16s) seventh and eighth.

Leigh’s Sam Luton was 10th in 37m 30s while Southend’s Simon Le Mare took the V50 first place with 37m 51s.

On the women’s side, Tracy English followed home her Leigh team-mate Barnes in second place (42m 29s) with Southend’s Sarah Jeffrey taking the third spot (43m 11s).

Benfleet Running Club had 23 runners in Leigh.

Behind their leading duo of Caldon and Spooner, there were PBs posted by Dan Smith (43m 24s), Steve Wise (45m 55s) and Laura Williams (56m 39s).

Castle Point Joggers had 25 runners racing with club honours going to Barry Hockley with a highly credible 24th place overall in a time of 41m 03s.

First ladies for were Jo Fitsall and Jo Hamilton who finished together in 53m 23s The club had a number of runners making their 10k debuts including Louise Thompson, Cheryl Wells and Sue Frost.
