CANVEY’S Jessica Judd will make her debut in one of world athletics most famous meetings tonight.
The 19-year-old will run the 800m at the Bislett Games in Oslo, which is part of the prestigious Diamond League circuit.
It will be Judd’s first major Diamond League race overseas.
She was due to race in the Diamond League race in Oregon, USA, two weeks ago but was pulled from the race at the last minute and put into the B race.
This time the Chelmsford AC athlete has a confirmed spot alongside some of the event’s biggest names.
World champion Eunice Sum, from Kenya, will be alongside Judd on the startline, as will the bronze medallist from last year’s World Championships, Brenda Martinez from the USA.
Martinez’s compatriot, Ajee Wilson, who beat Judd to gold two years ago in the final of the World Junior Championships, is also scheduled to start.
The Canvey teenager warmed up for tonight’s race at a low-key meeting in Milton Keynes on Saturday, winning in 2m 2.77s Judd and fellow south Essex athlete Hayley McLean are still waiting to hear whether they have been selected in the England team for the Commonwealth Games.
The team was due to be revealed on Monday but the announcement has been put back.
Judd’s race tonight will be screened live on BBC3 and is scheduled to get under way at 7.30pm.
