Gemma Kersey leads Basildon to victory at Essex Road Relays

BASILDON AC’s Gemma Kersey set her team on the way to gold at the Essex Road Relays at Chelmsford with the fastest run of the day.

Kersey ran the first leg of the 6km lap, finishing in miserable wet and windy conditions with a time of 21m 7s. And her team-mates Karen Whitmarsh (22.13) and Amy Webb (24.51) ensured the lead was never relinquished as the Basildon team took home the trophy.

Benfleet – Charlotte Peppiatt (22.50), Charmaine Sterling (24.19) and Gail Dawson (24.31) – finished fourth.

Southend AC’s Adam Hickey ran the fastest leg and Basildon AC’s team put up a fight, but neither could topple Chelmsford in the men’s event.

The Basildon AC team of Grant Webb (19m 30s), Steve Stange (20.01), Dale Clutterbuck (18.45) and James Tydeman (19.09) were the silver medal winners.

In bronze medal position was the Southend AC team of David Gibbon (19.29), Rhys Gillard (20.16), Lee Taylor (21.14) and Hickey (17.22).
