Essex Air Ambulance to make special landing at Southend school

SCHOOLCHILDREN will be able to learn about the life-saving work of the air ambulance when it makes a special landing at their school.

The Essex Air Ambulance will be at Thorpe Hall School in Great Wakering to mark National Air Ambulance Week.

Subject to emergency call outs, the helicopter will arrive at the school on Monday, September 24 as part of the “Go Yellow” week.
The week, which runs from September 24 to 30, celebrates the county’s yellow helicopter.

Essex Air Ambulance receives no direct government or lottery funding, and relies entirely on public donations to continue to save lives.

Sabi Blyth, Essex Air Ambulance fundraising co-ordinator, said: "We need £250,000 every month to continue providing this life-saving service. Many businesses, schools and organisations in Essex are joining in ‘Go Yellow’ week. We are delighted that so many people will be marking the week by having dress down days and holding their own yellow themed events. The support really is fantastic and their donations will be vital.”

Volunteers will also be at the Royals Shopping Centre in Southend all week raising awareness and funds for the service.

The charity thanked Medical Aviation Services, operators of the aircraft, for allowing them to fly the helicopter free of charge for this special landing.

How inspirational for the pupils at this fee paying, independent school with small class sizes, excellent facilities and outstanding results. A forward-thinking school with the traditional values of hard work, respect and good manners.

Shame it hasn't the time to inspire low achievers as well as the children of better off parents.

Still, perhaps the teachers at Cecil Jones don't have the initiative to organise a similar event which would explain the poor performance of it's pupils.
