The smash happened at 11.21am on Saturday on the London-bound carriageway of the A127 near the junction of Princes Avenue and Somerton Avenue in Westcliff .

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The inside lane was closed due to part of a road sign hanging in a tree. The accident did not involve any other vehicles. the grey Audi A4 ended up on its side by a lorry. The driver was taken to hospital and the fire brigade attended. The road was re-opened shortly afterwards.”

An Essex Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to an accident involving one vehicle which had over turned. One person was trapped and crews worked with paramedics to release the casualty. Crews used two sets of cutting equipment to release the casualty by 12:10pm.

How do these people crash into shops and roll their cars on a stretch of road where at best you crawl painfully slowly to each set of lights.

After sitting in the traffic due to this it was a wonder as to how the car had actually rolled so far but non the less however it happened I hope the gentleman involved is okay.

Saw the aftermath and it looked nasty - car was a long way from the A127 - was on the service road that runs parallel and the roof looked like it had been cut off to get someone out. Hope the injured person is OK. I did wonder how it managed to get so far from the road though.

I was in the next car! It looked like he had a fit and passed out as he passed out his foot must of hit the accelerator!! He went through a road light, went over bushes, hit the side, the car went up in the air and done a complete turn then landed on its side! It was very scarey, he was talking when we went to the car but he had to be cut out!! I hope he's ok!
